Description
This album, featuring bassist Masa Kamaguchi and legendary drummer Paul Motion alongside pianist Frank Kimbrough was recorded in a total of five hours at Palmetto's Maggie's Farm on April 26, 2005 with no rehearsal. Frank remembers the experience: "We played on a beautiful, sun-dappled spring afternoon in the country, set up in the same room the day was intense, but comfortably so, the atmosphere friendly and enhanced by a true generosity of spirit".

シンプルに「Play」と名付けられたFrank Kimbroughのピアノ・トリオ・アルバム。制作は2006年で、脇を固めるのは、日本人ベーシスト、Masa Kamaguchiと、Bill Evansトリオなどでお馴染みの名ドラマーPaul Motian(本作録音時７５歳)。多くの曲がピアノとベースとの対話で綴られていきます。時に切なく、それは美しい綾織模様のよう。Motianはというと、思い出したようにアクセントを付けたり、2人を見守ったり。そのMotianの存在が、ほどよい緊張感を醸し出しています。それは、Bobo Stensonの「Goodbye(2005年)」でのMotianの役割と同じような気がします。よって、ピアニストとベーシストの見守り役としてのMotianのドラムスに耳を澄まして頂きたい。ドラムスも時に歌うことが理解できると思います。
