Forget that Brad Paisley is associated with the Nashville Hat Marketing paradigm. Forget that Country Music may not "play" (pun obvious) to everybody. Forget everything you think you know about musical genres and just put this on the music machine of your choice, and let 'er fly. This collection has something for everyone, and even if you aren't a flash guitar guru, the melodies will win you over; even if you aren't a Pop Country fan, the pop country tunes will win you over; even if you aren't looking for variety, you will not be disappointed. The musicianship is spectacular and accessible at the same time. The tones are gorgeous and the interplay between the hot shot guitar slingers all on one record is fascinating. Some of it will remind you of the Hellecasters, some of it will remind you of early Satriani when melodies carried the themes, some of it will just remind you that its great to just lay back and listen.Paisley has managed the impossible, getting this many (and varied) instrumentals unto a Nashville record. I guess star power has its rewards, but Paisley did not simply cut a ego trip of fast and furious hybrid picking, he choose some wonderful SONGS and then added the right amount of talent to bring each one to the front, using the guitar hero stuff to augment, not overtake the music.Oh, and the vocal tunes are a nice way to mix things up. There is enough humor in the intros to allow even the grumpiest purist to crack a smile. Before Flash comes Taste and this is a tasty journey from start to finish. Thank you to Guitar Player magazine for bringing this collection to my attention. It pays to read.
