In vivid prose, Wright crafts a witty yarn of blues maverick Robert Johnson's colorful, complex, and all too brief 27 years. Upon finishing "Play Pretty Blues", I wish Johnson had a lived a little longer, if only to keep the pages turning a few more chapters. If you've never heard Columbia Record's King of the Delta Blues Singers, this novel will sing it to you. If you haven't stepped foot in the South, it will put loamy soil between your toes. I enjoyed reading "Play Pretty Blues", so I turned it back over and read it twice.
