After many a decade of being a life-long jazz fan, it's unusual for me to hear a "new" artist who's actually older than I am. I heard this trumpet/flugelhorn late night on 91.1 (kcsm.org on the internet) and thought: wow, it's not Miles, not a Miles imitator; Art Farmer? Kenny Wheeler? Tom Harrell? It's so damn beautiful! So I checked it out on the web. I had never heard of him--and from the photo he didn't look like anyone I'd heard of, but this cat has played with everybody, it seems, while pretty much staying in Chicago. so... It's not just good music--it's great! Especially for late night. So listen to Bobby Lewis. An overnight sensation in his 80's!
